This Valentine’s Day was a very exciting one for us.  Not only because we were able to rally a group of volunteers to deliver roses and cards to close to 150 widows all over the Kansas City metro area, but also because our story was shared on television and web sites all across the country.  While this kind of exposure is exciting and flattering, we’re excited not for the attention, but that the cause of widows and the call to love them has been given such a loud voice.  We’ve received a flood of responses from people all across the country touched by our work and inspired to get involved or reach out on their own.  That is what was so wonderful about this weekend.  We saw so many hearts touched and hearts moved in widows and those seeking to serve them.  It’s incredibly encouraging to hear how the Lord is spreading his heart like wildfire, all through a little thing called “news media”.  You can see a list of the many stories on our media page.

“I just watched a news story from our local tv station in NC about your organization.  I wanted you to know you have inspired me to reach out in my small town and find that 1 person (it’s a start) and that it may grow from there with the help from friends and Gods blessings. I pray that this may be the beginning of something.
My father always told me “Honey, it only takes 1 and you never know what my blossom from that.”
Thank you for sharing your story and all you do for others, you are all a true blessing from God and what a fantastic way to share his love with others.” -Dona, North Carolina

Here’s a brief look at the day:

“This was not just a blessing to the beautiful elderly folks but to us as parents. Our children learn compassion and a heart of kindness through loving on people who may be lonely and sad. As parents, we example James 1:27 to our children and Widow Wednesday is a great way to show them how to spread the love of Jesus!” -Lisa- Volunteer

“Just wanted to thank you for the sweet Valentine gesture.  It really touched my heart and made my day:)  God bless” -Becky- Widow

Thank you all for making this Valentine’s Day a day of blessing and joy for so many, and for helping spread love far beyond our city.  We’re currently in a stage of fundraising to support the continued pursuit of connecting every widow with someone who cares.  You can be a part of that!  If you’d like to find out about how you can help us increase our love and care for widows, please read here.  Thank you!

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works…encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” -Hebrews 10:24-25
